The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Unveil a Latest Divinity, Declaring it Their Most Ambitious RPG Ever

The anticipation surrounding the recent awards show reached a fever pitch, particularly after host Geoff Keighley posted a puzzling image of a desert monolith. The secret has been revealed. Larian Studios is developing a completely new Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was presented with a bold trailer packed with intense imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the literal unleashing of hell.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

For those hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. The studio warned that a third Original Sin game to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not currently in development.

That said, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This choice of words implies that the team could be crafting a faster-paced experience rather than another tactical title. For now, we can only guess, as only a teaser video is available.

The Legacy of Divinity

The Divinity series is universally respected and it's fair to claim it kicked off the contemporary revival of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are defined by detailed worlds, player agency, and deep class systems—elements that subsequently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is classic fantasy, what makes Divinity apart is the immense freedom given to the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is full of unique possibilities only possible by choosing a particular class or origin with a personal story.

The series is also wonderfully open-ended, enabling players to improvise both in story and combat. Virtually all objectives can be approached in a variety of manners, sometimes in lateral fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you recalled something a non-human character said.
  • Or, you could overcome an obstacle by using the world itself in a inventive way.

The Journey Continues

It is this design philosophy that have cemented the series to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games in history. Now, players can anticipate another adventure in this groundbreaking franchise.
