19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been won on hard surfaces

A revitalized the Russian player won his initial title for nearly 30 months with success over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The Russian, a ex- number one, has had a challenging period, achieving just one match at the Grand Slams and suffering a setback at the American major.

The player's varied form on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serve in particular - resulted in him falling of the elite rankings and ultimately splitting with long-term trainer Gilles Cervara.

Presently working with Johansson and his other coach, he has gradually progressed in the recent weeks - culminating in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over Frenchman Moutet.

It is his initial trophy following the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hard surface since spring of the previous year.

The win also signifies he has secured twenty-one titles at 21 different events.

"For the first time I am participating in a competition with my both daughters at once, so to get a championship is especially meaningful," said ranked player the champion.

"This victory is in dedication of my child her name, because the first title I got when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had been defeated in his previous six title deciders, featuring in that event earlier this year.

The player's counter-punching strategy and frequent outbursts on court had prompted commentators to wonder if his skill to play at the elite level was concluded.

However the athlete has implemented adjustments in the past month, attempting to advance forward and compete assertively, reinforced by an improved serving game.

Medvedev fought back from a disadvantage in the first set against the challenging opponent, securing four of the concluding five exchanges to gain the advantage.

The pair traded break points in the middle set before Moutet, attempting for his first professional title, gained dominance to force a decider.

He saved four early-game break points in a competitive third set before the champion secured a break to fifteen to serve for the match.

Fittingly, the winner secured the win with a shot at the net, with his opponent unable to handle a return after over two and a half hours.
